Four Victims Wounded at Howe Park – Unauthorized Event Descends into Chaos
On the evening of Saturday April 18, an unapproved gathering of several hundred people at Howe Community Park in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade neighborhood ended in a shooting when 20 to 25 rounds rang out as Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies were working to breaking up the gathering.
How Events Unfolded
At approximately 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office was notified reporting persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at the park. An additional caller described a potential physical confrontation and subjects running away.
Air support was dispatched and scanned the park but was unable to locate the reported fight.
Despite this, several hundred people had congregated at Howe Park for what the sheriff's office identified as an unsanctioned event. Law enforcement personnel formed a perimeter around the park, activated emergency lights, and took about 15 minutes ordering the crowd to disperse over their vehicle speakers.
As officers worked to clear the park, an estimated 20 to 25 rounds were fired — causing hundreds to flee in all directions.
The Injured
Four individuals — one female and three males, all believed to be in their 20s — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Two sustained immediate injuries, one sustained moderate injuries, and here one victim sustained minor injuries. All four victims were stable. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded and assisted with triage at the location.
The Investigation Scene
The crime scene was located on the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block. The Home Depot was locked down for a period of time. More shell casings were identified on here Cottage Way, with rounds click here lodged found in the metal fence adjacent to the nearby Home Depot — pointing to rounds fired in a southerly direction from along Cottage Way toward the store. CSI investigators and detectives processed the scene overnight.
What We Know About Suspects
Over law enforcement radio traffic, it was indicated that a vehicle connected to the shooting — identified as a Kia — was intercepted in Solano County with four occupants detained. Sacramento County Howe Park shooting Sacramento Sheriff's units were dispatched to retrieve the detainees and transport them back to Sacramento County. Video evidence confirmed two gunmen were present.
